വിഖ്യാത എഴുത്തുകാരൻ സൽമാൻ റുഷ്ദിക്ക് നേരെ വധശ്രമമുണ്ടായതോടെ ഒരിടവേളയ്ക്ക് ശേഷം വീണ്ടും സേറ്റാനിക് വേഴ്‌സസ് ചർച്ചയായിരിക്കുകയാണ്. സേറ്റാനിക് വേഴ്‌സസ് ഇന്ത്യ നിരോധിച്ച പുസ്തകമാണ്. ( books banned in india )

പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയായിരുന്ന രാജീവ് ഗാന്ധി 1988 ഒക്ടോബറിലാണ് ‘സേറ്റാനിക് വേഴ്സസ്’ ഇന്ത്യയിലേക്ക് ഇറക്കുമതി ചെയ്യുന്നത് നിരോധിച്ചത്. അന്ന് ഇന്ത്യയ്ക്ക് പുറമേ 19 രാജ്യങ്ങൾ കൂടി സേറ്റാനിക് വേഴ്സസ് നിരോധിച്ചിരുന്നു. ബ്രിട്ടനിലെ ബ്രാഡ്ഫോർഡിൽ പുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ പകർപ്പുകൾ കത്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

റുഷ്ദിയുടെ സേറ്റാനിക് വേഴ്‌സസ് മാത്രമല്ല വേറെയും എഴുത്തുകാരുടെ നിരവധി പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ ഇന്ത്യ നിരോധിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഈ പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ ഇറക്കുമതി ചെയ്യുന്നതിനും വിലക്കുണ്ട്. വി.എസ് നൈപോളെഴുതിയ ആൻ ഏരിയ ഓഫ് ഡാർക്‌നസാണ് അതിൽ പ്രധാനം. ഇന്ത്യയെ മോശം രീതിയിൽ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചതിനാണ് പുസ്തകം ഇന്ത്യയിൽ നിരോധിച്ചത്.
